Matthias' sports career at a glance
Whether in the hotel lobby, at dinner or at our EGYM event, Matthias is always approached for a fan photo with him. Since his victory at the 2016 Swiss Federal Wrestling and Alpine Festival, the former professional athlete has become known across all cantons throughout Switzerland. Wrestling is the Swiss national sport, the popular variant of freestyle wrestling, but practiced on sawdust.
Matthias' sports career has been marked by countless successes. The highlight was, and still is, his 2016 wrestling title in Estavayer-le-Lac. Matthias comes from a sporty family in the Haslital with football, skiing, daily nature and very much down to earth. It all started in Matthias' youth with various trainings in sports, among others at the university in Bern, where he studied sports science (Bsc. and Msc.).
Along the way he had a very active time in sawdust. It has always been important to Matthias to combine physical exercise and mental activity, of course also with the knowledge that he will not remain an active swinger forever. In the meantime, Matthias has published his own book, works on numerous projects with his long-time athletic trainer Roli Fuchs, is a coach in top-level sports at the Swiss Wrestling Federation and has completed a CAS in Entrepreneurial Leadership at the University of Bern.
Stand-up mentality and motivation
In his career, he has repeatedly had to deal with setbacks and injuries. Every single event has left its mark on him and is part of his very personal story. In his presentations, such as at our EGYM events, Matthias Glarner talks about his never-resting motivation and how he uses his knowledge in combination with digitalized training tools to coach top athletes from different sports on a daily basis, including some current top swingers, national ice hockey players and alpine ski racers.
Helping athletes succeed: Digitization
At first glance, a competition in the sawdust seems to have no connection to digitalization and a networked training floor. However, digital is everywhere. Every goal, every fight, every victory requires a long period of preparation and, above all, a lot of hard work. The foundations for this are the fun of sports, the motivation to keep going, and to include the whole thing simply and intuitively in daily life - and above all to train properly. All of this is basically possible without digitization, YES, but not without knowledge! This is exactly where digitalization comes in: motivating training that is fun and efficiently available to the masses without being a studied sports scientist.
