The fitness landscape is more diverse than ever. Urban Sports Club, one of the leading providers of sports and wellness in Europe, has analyzed the training habits of its members in 2024. The result: on average, members trained five times a month - an increase of one session compared to the previous year. In addition, seven partner locations were visited and four different types of sport were tried out.

Most popular categories:

Fitness remains the top choice with 42% of all bookings.

Yoga is in second place with 13%.

Indoor cycling climbed to third place for the first time with 7%.

Bouldering and swimming share fourth place with 6% each.

Pilates comes in fifth place with 3%.


Criteria for choosing a studio:

88 % of members choose studios based on distance.

74% are guided by the types of sport available.

Other criteria include loyalty to a favorite partner (27%), course utilization (24%), choice of trainer (20%) and recommendations from friends (15%).


Patrick Soxhlet, VP Partner Management at Urban Sports Club, emphasizes the benefits for studio operators: "Our recent survey shows that around 79% of Urban Sports Club members want to try out new sports and partner locations - an increase of 10% on the previous year. This willingness to experiment definitely brings new, exciting target groups to our partners' studios."


The top 5 fitness trends


1st Reformer Pilates:

Pilates with the Reformer, a training device that enables targeted resistance exercises thanks to its spring-based design, is becoming increasingly popular. The training particularly strengthens the deep muscles and improves core stability. Seven percent of members tried it out in 2024 - and the trend is rising. New studios such as Holmes Place Boutique and YTTP are increasingly focusing on this offer.


2. social fitness events:

Whether it's beach volleyball, Hyrox or running groups - social fitness experiences connect. 31% of members enjoy training with friends, while 36% have made new acquaintances thanks to Urban Sports Club


3. boxing fitness:

Boxing Fitness combines boxing moves with intense cardio and strength sessions. It promotes endurance, coordination and mental strength. Patrick Soxhlet sees great potential here: "46.3% of our members said that they particularly like using course formats with our partners, while 29.2% prefer free training. Boxing Fitness course formats will benefit greatly from this development and we are delighted to be launching exciting partners in this category at the start of the year."


4. healthy back:

Back classes that combine elements of yoga, Pilates and functional training remain essential. This category accounted for 14% of all bookings at Urban Sports Club in 2024.


5 Wellness & regeneration:

Wellness is no longer just an add-on, but a central component of everyday fitness. Whether innovative regeneration techniques or mindful breaks - seven percent of members regularly use corresponding offers.

The fitness trends of 2025 represent a new dimension of diversity. They combine innovative training methods with community experiences and focus on physical and mental health. Studio operators who embrace these trends can look forward to a year full of opportunities.
