Fitbit, an American manufacturer of fitness trackers and smartwatches, is being acquired by Google for 2.1 billion US dollars. According to the press release, users do not have to worry about their data: "The company never sells personal data and Fitbit health and wellness data will not be used for Google ads."
Fitbit will continue to exist as a separate brand within the Google Group. "More than 12 years ago, we set ourselves the bold corporate vision of making everyone in the world healthier. Today, I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved to realize this goal. We've built a trusted brand that supports more than 28 million active users around the world who rely on our products to lead healthier and more active lives," said James Park, co-founder and CEO of Fitbit. "Google is an ideal partner to advance our mission. With Google's resources and global reach, Fitbit can drive innovation in the wearables category, making health even more accessible for everyone. " The acquisition is expected to be completed next year.
