Fitness First Germany GmbH | People who arrange to exercise with others are more likely to go to the gym - this is confirmed by a population-representative survey conducted by InnoFact on behalf of Fitness First. For the study, over 1,000 people in Germany with an affinity for sports were asked what motivates them to work out. Of those surveyed, 77 percent exercise at least once or twice a week.
For the study, participants were asked what their biggest motivation for exercising was. "For my health" ranked first with 86%. In second place, with 80 %, was the statement that sports are done for a better body feeling. Other important reasons for exercising were to balance out work (60%), to look better (56%), to have fun (55%) and to lose weight (52%). A smaller proportion of the study participants are motivated by specific training goals: 25% do sports to get fit again after an injury; 18% to compete with others in sports; and 13% to prepare for a competition. Bringing up the rear is dating: 10% said they go to sports to meet a new partner.
