New study: The future lies in the digital
A new study entitled "Health 4.0: Why Germany must become the lead market for the digital healthcare industry and what needs to be done now" was presented at MEDICA. According to it, too few medical technology providers and hospitals are investing in digitization projects. The degree of digitization in the German healthcare industry was assessed as rather low in the study.
Yet there is enormous potential in the digitization of the healthcare industry. German medical technology manufacturers could create up to 10,000 additional jobs through innovative applications and products. According to a forecast, medical technology companies will generate sales of 15 billion euros with digital products and services in 2028 (2018: 3.3 billion euros). If this really comes to pass, almost a third of sales will then come from digital products.
Supporting program delights visitors
The MEDICA supporting program met with a great response from the trade audience. For example, the international defense and disaster medicine conference DiMiMED, the MEDICA PHYSIO CONFERENCE and also the MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE for sports medicine specialists were very well received. The focus here was, among other things, on the use of sports in pediatric and adolescent medicine to treat chronic diseases such as diabetes type 2 or obesity.
One topic of the MEDICA ACADEMY received special attention: "Be prepared - How clinics can prepare for major incidents!". Here, it was explained how clinics can best act in various scenarios such as severe weather situations, terrorist or poison attacks with many injured people.
The most prominent visitor was Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn. He opened the 41st German Hospital Day, which was all about health and hospital policy issues.
