German rheumatism organisation presents new companion app for patients developed by welldoo
Berlin based agency for digital health solutions, welldoo, has developed Rheuma-Auszeit (rheumatism timeout). It is the new official App of Deutsche Rheuma-Liga, an organisation that stands in for the needs of sufferers of rheumatic diseases. The app has been developed as a daily companion, providing helpful exercise instructions, as well as practical suggestions for managing pain associated with rheumatic diseases. Rheuma-Auszeit is available for free on both iOS and Android. One of the largest german charities supported the project as part of a campaign that advocates change in society through self-determination.
“There is already a number of apps in existence that focus on documenting pain. Our goal was to give patients specific opportunities to actively improve their own health. User tests have allowed us to develop recommendations and tips that are relevant to everyday life of rheumatic disease patients”, says Inga Bergen, CEO of welldoo.
Rheuma-Auszeit features physical exercises, relaxation techniques, heat and cold therapy instructions and self-massage how-tos. Users select a section and its corresponding audio file. A voice then guides them through exercises or instructs them, for example, on how to take alternating baths for legs and arms.The exercises are illustrated further by photographs. Complementary texts provide information about local Rheuma-Liga offers.
“Our first app’s goal is to support patients in everyday life situations and help them manage rheumatic pain. Accessible at any time, the app functions as a first aid kid and daily companion”, Erika Gromnica-Ihle, president of Deutsche Rheuma-Liga, points out. Welldoo included sufferers of rheumatic diseases in the development process to design the app as close to the user as possible. A welldoo team of multidisciplinary healthcare specialists was tasked with the realization of the app and worked closely with the German rheumatism organisation and its network of experts.
