New Master's degree in "Prevention, Sports Therapy and Health Management"
In October 2016, the new Master's program "Prevention, Sports Therapy and Health Management" will start for the first time at the IST University of Applied Sciences for Management. Designed as a distance learning course, it prepares students specifically for responsible management positions in one of the most important professional fields of the future.
Forecasts for the healthcare sector have been positive for years. However, various social developments, such as demographic change, also pose particular challenges for the healthcare market. Anyone who wants to be professionally successful here should have specific specialist knowledge.
With the new Master of Arts (M.A.) in "Prevention, Sports Therapy and Health Management", the Düsseldorf IST University of Applied Sciences for Management is now offering a targeted qualification that combines business knowledge with sports and exercise science expertise.
The Master's degree is offered as a distance learning course, with the course content taught via flexible study books, online lectures and tutorials as well as supplementary attendance phases. It can be completed full-time (4 semesters), part-time (6 semesters) or dual (5 semesters). In addition to studying, there is enough time to work in the industry and gain practical experience.
The course covers both business and health science topics. In addition to content from the field of general management, such as "Leadership Skills" or "Marketing & Sales", the focus is on health-specific specialization subjects. Topics include "Health Promotion and Prevention", "Management in Healthcare", "Fundamentals of Exercise Therapy", "Care Management" and "Quality Management".
The practice-oriented distance learning course was developed together with the German Association for Health Sports and Sports Therapy (DVGS) and also entitles students to obtain numerous employment-relevant licenses in the field of "Exercise and Sport" for billing with service providers, such as health insurance companies.
High practical component & individualized focus
Dr. Karsten Witte, the lecturer responsible for this course, sums up the special features of the degree: "The Master's course is characterized by its great flexibility and high practical relevance. Another major advantage for students is that they can set individual study focuses through personal elective modules - a wide range of licenses and certificates from the fields of prevention and rehabilitation are available to choose from."
According to Dr. Witte, the degree optimally prepares students for jobs in the industry: "With this Master's degree, graduates gain the necessary key qualifications for jobs in the fields of health promotion, prevention and rehabilitation. For example, they can take up leading positions in fitness and health centers or medical facilities such as rehabilitation clinics, but also in clubs and associations as well as with health insurance companies or professional associations."
Graduates of the Bachelor's degree programs "Fitness & Health Management" and "Fitness Science and Fitness Economics" at IST University receive a 10% discount on the new Master's degree program.
