How to train properly with rehab and therapy equipment? Tips for training with rehabilitation and therapy equipment!

As a rule, rehabilitation and therapy equipment is used in physiotherapy practices and rehabilitation centers. Thus, in a physiotherapy practice, manual muscle examinations, perceptual and sensory tests, electrical tests and, of course, measurement of joint movements are performed. In this process, the treatment is carried out by a physiotherapist, who, however, does not decide which physiotherapy treatment is carried out. This decision is made by an orthopedist or a neurologist. A practice of physiotherapy is colloquially called physiotherapy. The practices contain rehab and therapy equipment, such as ball pillows, balls, exercise bands and more. In addition, these practices are often as professionally equipped as a rehabilitation center, where fitness equipment is used for rehabilitation.
Rehab and therapy equipment: These are used for treatment.
A wide variety of diagnostic and measurement systems exist, with which it is possible to measure very specific movement values in order to later decide which way of treatment is effective.

The treatment variants:

  • Electronic muscle simulation (EMS training). This type of training is particularly popular because it also helps to build muscle mass.
  • Electrotherapy: This is also called electromedicine. Electrotherapy uses electricity, which then flows through very specific areas of the body as direct or alternating currents.
  • Hydrotherapy

This is a treatment in water. During the application of this rehabilitation and therapy device, the temperature stimulus is used, such as ice, warm or cold water.
In addition to these treatment methods, medical rehabilitation and therapy equipment is also used in the form of medical training equipment, such as the functional spine.

Not all sports equipment is the same
There are three different categories, which are the beginner models, which are suitable for home use, the semi-professional equipment and then the third category the professional equipment. These are the devices that can be found in gyms, for example. The latter can be further divided into cardio equipment, strength equipment, equipment parks and rehabilitation and physiological equipment. A well-equipped gym should have the first three areas, while the rehabilitation and physiotherapy equipment can only be found in very specialized studios, with some exceptions, such as the functional leg press.

Rehab and therapy equipment: the functional leg press
The functional leg press, also known as the leg press in gyms, is a piece of strength equipment for exercise therapy and is generally used in both physiotherapy and weight training to strengthen the leg extensors. Of course, training with this strength equipment also trains other areas of the body, such as the buttocks, thighs and calves. A special tip for training with rehabilitation and therapy equipment is that there are several variation possibilities. That means that with the position of the feet the load in the leg muscles is changed.
Training on rehabilitation and therapy equipment is a very good alternative to squats and especially suitable for people with back problems. Another advantage is that you can train with very heavy weights.
In physiotherapy, the leg press or the functional crutch is used especially after knee injuries such as meniscus, cruciate ligament, cartilage damage, etc.. But also patients with intervertebral disc disease can benefit from this rehabilitation and therapy device, because the training is very pleasant and is perceived as relieving. However, this is NOT a recommendation, because the therapy regulations and the exercises are determined by the doctor and physiotherapist.

Further rehabilitation and therapy equipment
The loop therapy: Here one trains with a loop, which is wrapped around the calf. The muscles of the back, abdomen and buttocks are trained. In thermotherapy there are two methods, cold and heat therapy, the latter including ultrasound therapy. Here one is treated with local heat applications, such as fango, infrared cabins or overheating baths. Cold therapy is used locally to relieve pain or reduce swelling.
