The Munich-based eGym GmbH is acquiring the entire mobile apps business of Netpulse, the San Francisco-based leader in custom apps for fitness facilities. The former CEO of Netpulse, John Ford, will become the new North American head of eGym. The new CEO of Netpulse is Alex Peacock, previously the company's chief commercial officer. The Chairman and co-founder of Netpulse, Tom Proulx, will join the eGym Board of Directors as a new member. The parties agreed not to disclose any details of the transaction.
Netpulse is the number one provider of customized mobile marketing apps for fitness clubs. These increase the engagement of their members and thus increase their revenue. Netpulse has thousands of customers worldwide, including U.S. heavyweights such as Planet Fitness, Gold's Gym and 24 Hour Fitness, as well as numerous European studio chains, including Virgin Active, Migros, DW Fitness First and INJOY. eGym's software-based, intelligent training solutions are in use in several thousand fitness and health facilities in Europe. With its open-cloud platform eGym ONE, the Munich-based high-tech company intelligently networks equipment that today still stands isolated next to each other in the studio to create a holistic training experience. ÜMore than 50 industry partners have already docked their devices onto eGym ONE, including Matrix, Precor, Polar and Runkeeper.
eGym co-founder and CEO Philipp Roesch-Schlanderer said, "From our first meeting at SIBEC in Austin two years ago, it was clear that John shared our vision of the fully connected training space. Netpulse has subsequently impressed us on many fronts: with its outstanding management team, its deep roots in the U.S. fitness market, and its highly scalable IT platform that is ideally suited to customer needs. Last but not least, Netpulse has grown by 90 percent in each of the past two years!
Through our sales partnership, the idea developed to jointly support our customers, the club operators, in the future to fully exploit the potential of mobile digital technologies for their gym. For our two companies, meaningful fitness data for all members is the be-all and end-all of our work. After all, valid training documentation is a key factor for successful training and sustained high motivation. In addition, we are connecting more and more devices from other manufacturers with our open cloud platform eGym ONE. As a result, the training area networked by eGym is continuously increasing."
Commenting on the pending acquisition, John Ford said, "This is the combination between the largest multi-vendor digital fitness platform and the largest open mobile platform. eGym brings its superior software and industry expertise to the Netpulse app. Get started by allowing members to view their workout data directly in the app. Netpulse will continue to stay true to its mission of bringing innovation to gyms - from now on with the new energy and resources of two companies. We want our customers to benefit from a fully integrated system without having to give up their freedom to choose what equipment they want to buy. Studio owners will also no longer have to worry about their future viability or bringing costly stand-alone solutions into their homes. Once the entire training space is digitized, the new possibilities are virtually limitless."
Back in October of last year, eGym and Netpulse announced the signing of a distribution distribution partnership for North America. announced. Since then, Netpulse CEO John Ford has already been responsible for eGym sales in the U.S. and Canada. eGym's innovative training tools, such as the eGym Member App, will be integrated directly into Netpulse's mobile apps as part of a product integration plan. In return, eGym is driving Netpulse's rapid expansion in Europe.
