When to go on the treadmill after giving birth?
At the latest relatively soon after the birth, many realize that pregnancy is a wonderful thing, but also takes its physical toll. Often the desire arises to get physically back to the figure level that one had before pregnancy. Even experienced sportswomen want to become active again early on in order to reach their old performance level. A treadmill is an attractive alternative here, as jogging is an excellent endurance workout and is ideal for losing weight. But at what point is treadmill training appropriate and safe after pregnancy?
How long to take it easy after pregnancy?
A certain period of rest after pregnancy is extremely important and should not be skipped for health reasons. Even if the urge to exercise as quickly as possible may be great in order to shed pounds early on, the treadmill should remain stationary for at least another six weeks. Especially in the case of a Kaiser incision, this break is important and can be extended to about at least eight weeks. The scar needs its time to heal completely after the operation and especially shocks caused by excessive running could lead to pain or slight complications of the healing process.
Regression first, then regular training
Regression training is also a priority first and should ideally be completed first in most cases before using the treadmill. After about eight weeks, a stage is usually reached at which exercise can be very loosely resumed. Direct jogging is nevertheless not recommended and twenty-minute walking sessions at a gradually tighter pace are more appropriate three to four times a week. If this is very easy, it can be gradually increased to thirty minutes until regular running on the treadmill is possible again from the twelfth week. In any case, the doctor should be consulted before starting training to determine when exercise is safe, especially since pregnancies can progress in very different ways.
Conclusion on the treadmill after childbirth
If started carefully, the treadmill is an ideal choice to get back into the old shape after childbirth. The speed and incline can be adjusted individually, and the workout is also independent of the weather.
