Back Health Day on March 15 was introduced in 2002 by the Pain Forum of the German Green Cross for Health. Today, nationwide campaigns and events are intended to call for active prevention of back pain.
Germany has a back
Back pain is the number 1 widespread disease. Almost every German is affected by it at least once in the course of his or her life. Here are a few figures from the DAK Health Report 2018 to highlight this serious problem:
→ 75 percent of all working people suffer from back pain at least once a year.
→ Back pain is the second most common cause of sick leave after respiratory infections
→ Extrapolated to all employed persons in Germany, around 35 million days of absence per year are taken due to back pain.
There are many reasons for back pain: too little exercise combined with weak back muscles, prolonged sitting or incorrect posture, for example at work, can cause problems of this kind. But obesity, stress, deadline/performance pressure or overwork also lead to back pain.
With these tips you can fight your back pain
Back pain does not have to be! To combat and effectively prevent back pain, it is worthwhile to do targeted back training to strengthen your muscles. This can be special exercises for at home, for example with your own body weight or small aids such as an exercise ball or a fascia roller. Of course, equipment training in the gym also helps with targeted muscle building. Some facilities offer back circles or other offerings for people with back problems, such as Pilates or special back courses. Another option is EMS training, which is very effective for back problems. You can find more information at EMS-TRAINING.de!

In addition to a targeted back workout to build muscle, a few simple tricks in everyday life can also help alleviate suffering:
- Incorporate more movement into your daily routine: why not take the stairs instead of the elevator or the bike instead of the car more often?
- Exercise regularly to balance out the long hours of sitting at work.
- Get up from time to time during work and take breaks for exercise.
- Make sure your posture is upright.
- Keep your stress level as low as possible.
- Eat a healthy diet.
- Avoid one-sided and heavy loads, such as lifting objects.
- Make sure you get enough sleep and a back-friendly mattress.
