Small Group Training (SGT) - Together we are fit!

4 Ratings

In Germany, the hype surrounding small group training, or SGT for short, has not yet made it into the 2019 fitness trends. In America, however, small group training is already ranked 19th in the 2019 trends of the annual study by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). So what exactly is behind the magic letters SGT? Who is small group training for? What makes a good SCT? And where can you participate in SCTs? This and much more you will find out here.

Small Group Training - What is it?

Small Group Training - training together with a small group of other people. Small Group Training is not about friends who meet for a jog, but a training concept that was initially offered in boutique studios, but is now also offered in many conventional fitness studios.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people in Germany set out to do more sports, get fitter, do something for their health, shape their bodies or lose weight. However, the results are sobering: 93% of all newcomers to the fitness world fail. The big exception? People who can afford personal training. According to a study in the Journal of Sports Science and Medicine, an impressive 73% of all personal training participants stay motivated and achieve the goals they set.

The downside to personal training? It is very expensive, and the number of people who can afford personal training on a regular basis is relatively small. The solution? Small Group Training! In a group of no more than 6 people, you train together with a personal trainer.

Get fit with circuit training

The basis of most Small Group Trainings is a Functional Fitness Training program with a holistic approach. The 4 building blocks of successful SCT programs are the use of innovative new fitness equipment, the element of competition and challenge, the sense of community and the guidance of a personal trainer.

The phenomenon that one's motivation is significantly higher when one has a date to exercise, working out with one or more friends is certainly well known. The feeling of community in Small Group Training is one of the driving factors that motivates people to train again and again.

Of course, working out is twice as fun when you can train on new, nifty, and just really cool equipment, rather than just pedaling side-by-side on the cross-trainer. At the SGT, challenges and a certain competitive character for the participants are worked out. This motivates and spurs on top performances. Again and again, small intermediate goals are achieved, a personal record is broken - this provides pure adrenaline and endorphins during training. The last point of the successful Small Group Training concept is the element of personal training. With a professional at your side, you are simply in good hands. The exercises are correctly explained, the execution by the participant can be corrected. Thus, the training has maximum effect with the lowest risk of injury.

Who is Small Group Training for?

The good news is that SCT is suitable for anyone who wants to achieve their athletic goals and good New Year's resolutions. The important thing is that you work out in an appropriate group. Many studios offer both private small group training - meaning that the group has already formed, ideally already knows each other and has similar goals - and public SCT. Here, there may be a bit of a wait until you can start training in the appropriate group. The age of the participants should not be too far apart, the individual training level should be approximately on the same level, your expectations for the training should not be too far apart. With the right group, however, Small Group Training is really suitable for every age group and every training level.

Compared to personal training, the costs are significantly lower - but good SCT is not available at the discount price of a monthly membership in the studio of a large chain. You should expect to pay between 70 and 150 euros per month.

Conclusion

Small Group Training - SGT for short - is a pretty hot fitness trend that is slowly arriving in Germany. Functional training in a small group makes it easy to achieve personal goals, the training is fun, the motivation to train again and again and to keep at it is great. Although the costs are significantly higher than a low-cost gym membership, they are absolutely justified.
