Training on the RowErg or SkiErg is an effective combination of strength and endurance workout. Unique competitions and events provide even more motivation.
Rowing is one of the most effective total body workouts. It is today and it was back in 1976 when brothers Dick and Pete Dreissigacker were working on their first rowers on an old farm in Vermont, USA and developed the very first Concept2 rowing machine just a few years later. Concept2 quickly became known worldwide, and the Concept2 Indoor Rower became the best-selling rower in the world. To this day, the company is headquartered in Vermont and promotes the sport of rowing around the world - on the water, just as it does at home and in the gym. It added popular ski and bike ergometers, monitors, software, apps and other technologies.
Hyrox and CrossFit
When you bet on Concept2, you bet on innovation and tradition in equal measures. Trendy fitness concepts like Hyrox and CrossFit also appreciate this. The event sport Hyrox was launched in 2017 and challenges athletes' strength and endurance in hard-fought competitions. Up to 4,000 athletes participate in each of the Hyrox "World Series of Fitness" events, which tour more than 20 cities in North America and Europe. The set-up is always the same: there are eight stations, with one kilometer run in between. At the very first station, athletes complete 1,000 meters on Concept2's SkiErg, then continue with Sled Push and Pull and Burpee Board Jumps before rowing one kilometer on Concept2's RowErg at station five. Last but not least are Farmers Carry, Sandbag Lunges and Wall Balls. A sequence that sounds really exhausting just reading it, and it is.
Thanks in part to training equipment from Concept2, Hyrox relies on the incomparable combination of strength and endurance training in equal measure. But not only in such unique competition concepts, Concept2 products are also popular in everyday fitness. While the very first rowing ergometer was developed in 1981 as a training device for competitive athletes, its popularity quickly grew among athletes outside of rowing because of the pleasant and effective workout. Rowing is a practical whole-body workout that provides strength and endurance and is also easy on the joints.
Rowing technique is important
The right technique is important when rowing and this can be learned. Concept2 offers various technique videos online and a free 80-page training manual for trainers. In addition, Concept2 experts recommend monitoring progress in rowing to stay motivated. The Concept2 online logbook provides the opportunity to do so. In addition, there are always opportunities to participate in various events and indoor regattas.

The Concept2 SkiErg
Training with the SkiErg offers a similar, yet different form of exertion that perfectly complements rowing training. It is not without reason that the SkiErg is also used in rowing performance centers. The Concept2 SkiErg offers all the physiological benefits of cross-country skiing for those frequent occasions when there are no trails nearby. Even those who are inexperienced in cross-country skiing can benefit from the advantages of cross-country skiing training with the SkiErg. As with the RowErg, Concept2 also offers comprehensive training videos and information on the correct technique.
Indoor cross-country skiers still looking for motivation can also sign up for one of the exciting real or virtual competitions here. The SkiErg Sprints will take place from Nov. 10-13, 2022, and will consist of short 1,000-meter sprints in various age groups. Matching four- or six-week training plans are available.
