What steps are necessary to equip a gym?
You have a coherent concept, a suitable location, all legal issues have been clarified and the financing is in place. Now it's time to equip your gym, which can be a real challenge. We explain the steps you need to take to equip a gym.
Setting up a gym - step by step
The floor plan
You have already worked out a concept for your gym. Now think about how you can best accommodate it in your premises. How many and which rooms do you need? How big do they need to be? The floor plan of the building will help you with this.
It doesn't matter whether you're having the building constructed or furnishing an existing property from scratch. There are a number of building regulations for fitness studios that need to be observed. For example, a ventilation system, adequate fire protection and escape and rescue routes.
Room planning
There are usually many people in a gym at the same time. A feeling of confinement should not arise during training. After all, the purpose of training is to reduce stress and not to create additional stress. When planning your space, you should therefore make full use of the available space and not waste any room. At the same time, divide everything up so that everything runs smoothly even at peak times.
It is important that the rooms are clearly laid out. Also think about how many pieces of equipment you can accommodate in a room and how you want to arrange them. For example, in a circle for circuit training or arranged thematically according to muscle groups. This contributes to a harmonious room atmosphere and helps exercisers to keep track of the individual pieces of equipment.
The equipment
The right equipment is the be-all and end-all for a fully equipped gym. Ideally, you should furnish your gym as versatilely as possible. Complete equipment includes Strength equipment for targeted muscle building (e.g. cable pulley, ab trainer, multi-station), endurance equipment for better fitness (e.g. ergometer, rowing machine, treadmill, cross trainer) and a free weight area with barbells, dumbbells and weight benches.
Other facilities include a reception area with a counter and access control, an office, changing rooms and sanitary facilities. Other considerations are: Which floor should be laid? Do you need a wellness area? Should televisions be on?
The color schemeshould also be considered. Think about the colors you want to use in your studio beforehand. Yellow, for example, has a stimulating and motivating effect, blue cools and calms, while orange promotes communication.
Conclusion
There are a few things to consider when fully equipping your gym. These steps are necessary:
- planning the space based on the floor plan in order to make optimum use of the available space
- Equipping the reception area, fitness equipment, changing rooms and sanitary facilities
- a suitable color concept.
