ErnährungIn 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) is focusing on the topic of diabetes on World Health Day (WGT). In keeping with this, the IST Study Institute is now offering all interested parties an e online lecture on the topic.

Every year on World Health Day on April 7, the WHO draws attention to a health issue of global relevance; in 2016, the focus is on diabetes. And there are reasons for this: In 2008, 347 million people worldwide were affected by diabetes. In 2012, the disease caused 1.5 million deaths worldwide. In Germany, too, cases of the disease are on the rise. Within a decade, the number of adults with known diabetes has risen by 38 percent. The WHO assumes that diabetes will be one of the seven leading causes of death worldwide by 2030.

Diabetes and nutrition

Diabetes is often preventable through appropriate preventative measures, such as physical activity and a healthy diet. And nutrition is precisely the focus of the 30-minute online lecture offered by the IST Study Institute to mark World Health Day. In it, ecotrophologist Dr. Brigitte Bäuerlein answers questions such as "What should I pay attention to in my diet if I have diabetes?" or "How can the right diet help to prevent diabetes?"

Dr. Bäuerlein works at the IST Study Institute as a lecturer for the part-time training courses "Nutrition Counselling" and "Nutrition Coach" - flexible training opportunities for anyone who wants to learn more about nutrition.

Information on IST further training in the area of "Wellness & Health" is available at www.ist.de.
