As soon as spring brings the first warm rays of sunshine, we are drawn outdoors. So the best opportunity for a walk in the park. Why not do it this weekend? Because Saturday is Make a Walk in the Park Day!

Every year on March 30, Mache-einen-Spaziergang-im-Park-Tag (Take a Walk in the Park Day) takes place. On this day, there is a call to take a walk and get some fresh air. It doesn't matter whether the walk takes place in the park, in the forest, on the beach or in the pedestrian zone. The only important thing is to move in the fresh air.

Spazieren gehen ist gesund

Going for a walk is healthy

Anyone who works in an office knows the problem: a predominantly sedentary posture and lack of exercise can cause health complaints such as back pain. That's precisely why it's important to take countermeasures and move around as much as possible. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends walking at least 10,000 steps a day.

Anyone who thinks that endurance training on a treadmill or cross trainer, cycling or weight training is healthier than a simple walk is mistaken. Walks have many positive effects on the body and mind, strengthen the immune system, help with weight loss and even prevent disease. For example, they reduce the risk of diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease and heart attacks. They also relieve joint and back pain and depression.

Walking also makes us happy. While we walk through nature, in the best case still in sunshine, happiness hormones are released. In contrast to jogging, for example, we perceive our surroundings more clearly when we go for a walk. Instead of concentrating on the exercise, walking allows us to look at flowers and nature and focus more on smells and sounds such as birdsong. By exercising in the great outdoors, we can leave the stress of the day behind, clear our minds and recharge our batteries. This ensures a better sleep as well as a generally better well-being.
