EGYM online survey reveals great potential in digitization

"How smart is your gym?" EGYM asked international decision-makers at fitness and health facilities how much they were already using digital tools in five different areas of the member experience. More than 250 operators, nearly two-thirds of them from the D-A-CH region, participated. Result: progress is being made, but there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Specifically, EGYM 's online survey looked at the state of digitalization of marketing, member acquisition and onboarding, training experience, and visualization of training success.

The results of the survey


  • Nearly one-fifth of gym operators have not yet begun the digitization process at their facility, while a good 60% have become at least partially active.
  • Only just over 5% are very well positioned digitally in all areas - from member acquisition to member retention - according to their own assessment.
  • 77% of participants said they could still improve in many of the five areas surveyed.
  • Only 28% of gyms have fully automated goal tracking for their members. Their members receive personalized workout recommendations and progress updates via a mobile app integrated with connected fitness equipment.
  • For half of the gyms, training progress and goals are documented either on paper or manually in an app.


The online test "How smart is your gym?" is still live. It provides information on how digitally a fitness or health facility is already set up and offers tips and inspiration for improvement.
