For music usage from January 1, 2023, queries such as admission or revenue will be converted from gross values to net values across all tariffs. The changeover is being made due to legal requirements and to ensure uniform, transparent handling.
Gyms that have registered music usage for 2023 or have a valid contract with GEMA should urgently check whether the tariff for music usage falls under the tariffs mentioned here. If this is the case, a change must be made to the values you have reported via GEMA's online portal.
To calculate net values, gym operators simply need to subtract from their sales or expenses for music performances the sales tax and advance sales or system fees that apply to them.
Calculation examples for the calculation of the net value can be found on the GEMA website.
