Back trainer at a glance - what models are available and where are the differences

4 Ratings

Back trainers offer you a flexible way to make your back a little stronger with each workout. As the counterpart of your abdominal muscles, it's especially important that you also develop the necessary strength and stability in your lower back. The stronger your lower back is, the more confident you will become with free weights. Here you can find out which back trainers are available on the market and what the differences are.

Training mit dem Rücken

Which back trainer do you need in the gym and at home?

The classic back trainer is a comparatively simple piece of equipment: you have a way of clamping your feet at the Achilles heel on one side, and you have a support at the front on your hips. From this position you lean forward and lift your upper body. With a little more experience and strength, you can put a weight in front of your chest or on the crown of your head (this variation is recommended only for experienced athletes) and thus increase the resistance .

There are differences mainly in the angle of the support and support. In the gym there is more space, usually the supports are parallel to the floor and the foot supports are higher. The advantage is that you can also pick up heavier weight plates from the floor without unnecessarily pinching your spine.

For home use, the back trainers are more compact - which back trainer of both models is better, can not be said so sweepingly. Picking up heavy weights on an angled back trainer is somewhat more difficult in any case. In addition, the exercise is made more difficult by a stand attached in the middle, which often makes the exercise more wobbly. Whether this bothers you, however, depends on your weight.

Upper body training with the weight bench

The inversion bench is an extremely interesting piece of equipment because you can use it to extend your back and unhook it. Even in better sorted studios you will rarely find an inversion bench on which you can hang freely, even at home the device is usually too special. Just for unhooking you can simply take light weights in front of the chest and stretch the spine - alternatively you can also use Gravity Boots and a sturdily mounted pull-up bar for this.

If the size of the back trainer is not suitable for your home, you can also use a barbell for deadlifts for a similar workout. This can also be conveniently stored under the bed at home.

How to keep your back fit for the long term

A back trainer may not be the perfect piece of equipment to train your strength and push your limit every day, but it's necessary. Now which back trainer you prefer is up to you (and your space), training your lower back will make you more resistant and fit in everyday life and weight training. And that, after all, is the result that matters.
