In 2023, the Women's Rowing Challenge (WRC) entered its sixth round in our collaboration with the German Rowing Association. After the Challenge had to experience corona-related restrictions in recent years, we are pleased that more normality has returned this winter and the Challenge could be held "live" in the boathouses.
"The overall result after the four Challenge dates of 43,719,813 meters rowed pleases us enormously! That's more than a circumnavigation of the equator!"
Axel Eimers, the newly appointed Vice Chairman of the DRV and Department Chairman Indoor Rowing, is pleased.
As usual, the four distances were rowed on the usual four dates. On 08.01. 8 minutes were sweated, on 15.01. 15 minutes, on 22.01. 22 minutes and the fourth and last round was completed on 30.01. in 30 minutes. This year, the participants were again divided into five age groups to allow for a fairer distribution and thus fairer competition. This was tried for the first time last year and proved to be successful.
In 2023, over 4000 women from 144 clubs rowed in the event. "The fact that this event has such a high response really makes us very happy!" said Eimers. Almost 2000 women rowers also competed in all four challenges and thus took part in the draw for the RowErg and the pair of Skulls.
We wish the winners a lot of fun with the prizes!
Mündener RV on top for the third time
After last year again the Hamburg women won the overall ranking of the WRC, the winning club is this year, after 2019 and 2020, for the third time Mündener Ruderverein von 1912 e. V.! Also from us a big congratulations to the great performance of 1,920,296 meters!
The Mündener relegated the Wassersportverein Meppen e.V. (1,591,304 meters) to second place. Third place this year went to the second-placed WRC 2022 - the Lingen Rowing Society. Although the placing is a small "step backwards" for the Lingen women, the RG rowed 430 km more - the equivalent of the distance from Munich to Leipzig. So the level of this year's Challenge has increased by quite a bit!
In addition to the German Rowing Association, we are also enormously pleased that the Challenge was so well received again this year.
We are already looking forward to January 2024, when once again numerous women will be rowing against each other on the ergometers.
